A constant witness even within the most inert

 Vedic Meditation अनुमंता Anumanta

The saakshi साक्षी is not just a passive observer

This is a common error in appreciation. The witness also gives the sanction or anumati     अनुमति

How? In Sankhya philosophy we see that the pure awareness or Purusha is inactive and its sanction too is passive. A passive sanction is no sanction at all

But in the Veda and Vedanta the Pure Consciousness is also dynamic and can have an active impact on the manifest world

The Chitta is also Chitta Shakti and Tejas. Agni is not just a passive receiver of offerings but an active builder of the worlds with a profound knowledge of all the processes too

Sri Aurobindo describes this beautifully when he says that the Sakshi  साक्षी becomes anumanta अनुमंता and eventually Ishvara ईश्वर as the sadhana grows

Vedic Meditation  साक्षी or witness

The witness is one of the greatest discoveries of the Vedic Vedantic way of life

There is through all of life’s processes and happenings a constant witness who not only always watches all that is taking place but is also free

The Saakshi is not only passive but also a critical element in all of Vedic institutions such as Darshana, law, marriage, etc

But the witness is also full of wisdom and energy and is Agni. His flame is an eye eternally watching

He is present in all things, in the woods and the sky, in water and in earth. He is the secret life of all things even the most inert

Sri Aurobindo includes the Cross, Mary and the Formless in his Sanatan Dharma, keeping with all these "Mother Worship" at the core of his spirituality. Mother Worship is dateless, but highlighted in the Rig Veda. - GG
Tomorrow's program. There is one lecture on Gender Issues in Savitri. It will be an effort to place Sri Aurobindo in the context of the present. This will be online. If I get the link I will share. - GG
