Sri Aurobindo's letters embodied a certain force and power

Collated by Tusar Nath Mohapatra (b. 1956), Director, Savitri Era Learning Forum (2005), Founder, Savitri Era Religion (2006), and President, Savitri Era Party (2007)

6 hours ago — THE KEYNOTE OF Sri Aurobindo's thought is evolution. As he put it in one of his aphorisms, 'When we have passed beyond humanity, then we shall be the Man.

After 1930, Sri Aurobindo began to reply to the letters which his disciples sent him, answering their queries about spiritual practice. This correspondence gradually became so extensive and massive that it came to occupy over 2,000 printed pages. Sri Aurobindo often spent twelve hours a day or more in this activity. Most of this record has been published and presents one of the most fascinating archives of spiritual life available anywhere. The letters were much more than merely words; each of them embodied a certain force and power which acted directly on the physical, vital, mental, and spiritual being of the addressees.

Apparently JN Mohanty has passed away. He was one of the luminaries of twentieth-century Indian philosophy and an expert on Husserl. A link to some of his works:
I had the rare privilege of listening to his lectures on Husserl at RMIC, Gol Park. Like his great contemporary, J.L. Mehta, Prof. J.N. Mohanty also believed that India cannot bypass modernity by simply ignoring it. What is required is a deep understanding & befitting response.
Just learned my teacher, the doyen of Indian philosophy, J.N. Mohanty passed away. He was the consummate philosopher and educator. I attended all his classes, twice. His lectures on Indian philosophy and on Kant still stay with me. It was a blessing to be his student. RIP, prof

Sri Aurobindo's prose works during the latter half of his life comprises predominantly of his letters on a variety of subjects. Steeped with extraordinarily penetrating insights and profound sources of wisdom, these letters are an evidence of how much he cared for his disciples.
People should be free to choose their religion and change their nationality. Political outfits shouldn't exploit these for milage. Religions shouldn't impose codes or restrictions on lifestyle matters. Celebrating festivals shouldn't be mandatory and people must be given freedom.
