Sir Winston Churchill didn't cause nor contribute to the Bengal Famine and he didn't hate Indians either.

As someone who has read through thousands of pages of primary sources, here's the actual relationship between Churchill, India & Bengal Famine.

A big problem with reading of history and historical personalities is our tendency to judge them from our current lens rather than trying to understand the context and circumstances of the events and persons of the yore.

Had Attlee heeded to Churchill and slowed down the process of Indian Independence, the world’s worst genocide of Hindus, much more than the höłøçâûśt, could have been vastly reduced if not completely avoided.

It’s a truism that in India so many lies, falsehoods and factoids against the British have been fed into minds of Indians especially of the Hindus through formal education system and otherwise. Some of these are that the British caused the famines, that India was the world’s 1st or 2nd largest economy by the time British colonised India, that the British divided Hindus and Muslims of India, that the British were responsible for partition of India, so on and so forth.

The fact of the matter is that Maulana Abul Kalam Azad was independent India’s 1st Education Minister followed by several Muslim and Leftist Education Ministers. They distorted Indian history and political narrative on industrial scale by whitewashing the barbaric Mùślím invasions/rule of India by falsely projecting it as benign while simultaneously vilifying the British; by transferring the blame for India’s partition from Mùśłîms to the British even though the latter made all efforts till the last minute to prevent it; etc.

Churchill was a racist but not evil, unlike Hitler. He was an Empirist, but was benign. He genuinely believed in Benjamin Disraeli’s description of India as the brightest jewel in the Crown of the British Empire, and wanted to retain it. But that does not make him a demon. And tell me, who would like to let go of one’s precious possession?

I appreciate your @AndreasKoureas_ efforts to de-vilify Winston Churchill who was one of the towering personalities of 20th century.

A very detailed and interesting review of different contemporary explanations of #consciousness and the mind-body problem, albeit mostly from the perspective of analytical philosophy. A useful reference work.
